A New Look, New Kinds of Post

I know! I bet this came as a surprise. Lishieomancy, after two and a half years, is now named Polyrillustration. Here's why:

Lishieomancy was a name I used back when I was in my mid-teens. I was a bit of a Harry Potter nerd and liked the sound of 'arithmancy', had Lishie as a nickname, and a combo of the two was born. I already had adopted Polyrhythm as an 'artist name' when this blog opened, but named the blog Lishieomancy due to being stuck for ideas. Finally, a few months ago, I decided I should start thinking of a more suitable name. And here it is.

Secondly, something else I've been meaning to do for a few months is to start featuring and talking about work from other artists. I come across some truly amazing work, and feel I should share my findings with others.

R.I.P. Laptop (February-ish 2006 - January 2011)

So, farewell, my trusty laptop. You put up with me for very nearly five years, and as your memory slowly started to fail and your BSODs began to increase, you ran slow and sluggish, and finally, last night, the backlight in your screen failed.

I've been thinking about replacing the poor thing for a few months, and I was hoping it'd hold out until this summer when I had more experience with Macs, then I could make a decision as to which operating system I'd use - I guess not. Right now, I'm worrying more about the cost, although thankfully I've got some money set aside that'll help (specifically for a 'rainy day', had been hoping to use it for help in paying for Accomm. in third year of uni - I think that right now, though, this is more of a priority). I'll still have 'net access at university, however CMTV work - including recording any lines and continuing work on my independent Poly-segment - is going to have to be put on hold until I get a new machine.

*- See, I still haven't lost my sense of humour.

100th Post Celebration

Hey-hey-hey! I'm celebrating with a newer layout (made from examples of one of my first Illustration briefs here at university) and some photos of what I've been getting up to recently art-wise.

All of us have to keep a reflective visual journal (RVJ) - similar to my studio diary at Foundation level, but more visually based. The 'How to Kill a Brummy Big Issue Seller' is a dummy book for my latest brief (and before you ask, it doesn't involve literally killing people - it's actually a positive little story).

Here we have some shots from the Industrial brief - the previous photo is a page spread from my RVJ, the following picture is of my work in progress:

The finished, cleaned-up shots would make nice business cards or prints, I think. :)

It's that month again

That last post I made and then deleted - don't worry about it. I set up a separate Blogger account for my solely-university stuff. I'm still working on a few changes as I think the blog needs 'em, but it won't be anything major.

It's October again, folks! And this month means that Lishieomancy will have its second birthday. I'm pretty proud of myself, as previous attempts at personal websites and blogs all failed before they could even be properly established.

Now. Time for a bit of bragging. Take a look at this.

The paper has a lovely 'handmade' textured feel to it - in fact, the entire book has this feel to it. Looks pretty sweet, right? I found it in my university's art shop, and ...

£2.60!

My university shop has some awesome prices, but I expected a book like this to be at least twice what it cost me (then again, last year the art shop in my college town was pretty expensive, so maybe I'm just used to things being pretty pricey). I bought it, a very happy artist. There was only one left on the shelf, so I put it down to fate.

I do have plans for this little book, and so far it's going awesomely. *thumbs up*

A new layout

As much as I love stars, I've been wanting to give my blog a proper makeover for a while now. I've had the starry theme since this time last year ... I think.


However, half my images seem to have died on me. I don't know whether this is an error of Blogspot, or because I tinkered with my layout, or what it is - I'll wait a couple days and if they're not back I'll see what's up.

Layout update

I haven't changed the header, just the background - it's a large 'un and fixed, instead of being small and tiled (I'm not good with tiling images unless it's very simple in design).

Does it look mucked up on anyone's comp? My monitor's quite high-res and it looks okay on mine; but everyone's computer is different. ^^;

EDIT: Oh heck, there's an easier way around this. *fires up the GIMP again*


EDIT2: There. Tiling images is easier when you only have to worry about it one-way.
