Hand-in (and a small break!)

Well, folks, everything's just been handed in. Not much else I can say other than phew. Even though I feel I used my time well, I've still lost sleep over it all and stayed up until 3.30AM this morning getting everything organised ready for the assessment (although I did fall asleep at my desk during the evening ... refer back to said sleep deprivation).

Here are two of my final outcomes.

I wanted something quite simple for my vector piece. This was the first time I laid my grubby little traditional artist's hands on Adobe Illustrator, so I didn't want it too complex - better a vector that's a bit on the simple side than me attempting something complicated and having it come out looking like crap.

Thank goodness for a spare Wacom tablet and a free day in the media room to get this done.

As for the quote itself - this was a quote so many people went for (I'm willing to bet a good 50% of us, if not more). It's just such an adaptable quote that you can apply to a great many situations. The situation I put it in was a girl's biological transition from 'childhood' to 'adulthood' whether she's ready for it or not. The handwritten text and doodles was inspired by scribblings on bathroom stall walls and desks, as well as little notes you used to pass to your friends (I did it, you did it).

It's relatively quite a controversial subject for me - I'm not afraid to talk about menstrual cycles or (to an extent) what I go through, but as I don't have the best of times handling it, it's a topic I usually feel is very personal. I hope I managed to portray it without coming across as tasteless.

While researching for this topic, I came across menstrual art ... which I feel deserves a post of its own at some point.

This is a digital collage, using a different quote. The original plan of action was to use the same quote, but I wanted a little more variety so decided to pick another! This one is about the position of women in society - we've gone from the role of homemaker to multitasking career woman, and how those nowadays who choose to stay at home have had that choice to. However, that doesn't mean that choice is easy, and many ladies wish for both.
